One fun part of living in Florida is the beautiful weather we get even through the winter time. As an added bonus the perfect time to pick strawberries is during the winter in Florida! Here are many, many strawberry u-pick options to choose from where the whole family can spend the day.
The strawberries are giants, bright red and so juicy. Really in a word they are delicious. You can make so many delicious desserts like a strawberry poke cake, strawberry pancakes or a strawberry shortcake. There are so many ways to enjoy them.
Strawberry season usually runs from December to March but some farms only open for u-pick at the end of their harvesting season. All information was correct at the time this post was written. Schedules and prices are subject to change so always double check on each farm’s website or Facebook before going!

Strawberry Season in Tampa
Florida strawberry season typically lasts from December through March each year. This is a great time to get outside and enjoy Florida’s mild winters without being too hot.
Strawberry U-Pick Tips
- Mother nature is not always predictable so dates will vary from year to year. I recommend always checking online before you go.
- Along a similar vein, weather and being picked out can affect availability. Follow the farms you’re interested in on social media for last minute updates about rain and running out of ripe fruit.
- Dress appropriately to be outdoors in the Florida heat. Lightweight layers that protect you from the sun, dirt and bugs are a good idea. Bring water to drink as well!
- Don’t forget to bring sun protection. A hat and some sunscreen are a good place to start. The sun is strong in the middle of the day while the farms are open and sunburns are not enjoyable in my experience lol.
- These are real working farms and the ground can be dusty or even muddy. Wear shoes that can get dirty or be easily cleaned off.
- Most importantly: HAVE FUN! Enjoy the time you spend together outside in the sun!

What is it: Parkesdale Market is a farmers market where the berries come from a large nearby farm. They are world famous for their strawberry shortcake. A large biscuit-like piece of shortcake covered in a huge pile of strawberry filling and whipped cream. Absolutely drool worthy. You can enjoy this yummy dessert as well as other treats and products while sitting out on their patio surrounded by plants.

There are so many amazing places to pick strawberries near Tampa, Florida. Several commercial growers as well as smaller family farms open up their land to the public for strawberry u-pick. The whole family can come out and have a good day picking buckets of strawberries. Plant City, Florida, just outside Tampa, is the winter strawberry growing capitol in the country.
