Go Blueberry Picking in Tampa at These 13 U-Pick Fields

Another season has arrived in Tampa which means there is yet another crop available for u-pick. It is very exciting, I know. So now that it is Spring you can go blueberry picking in Tampa! These are 13 blueberry u-pick fields that are open to the public so the whole family can enjoy picking some fresh fruit together.

My son’s favorite fruit right now is blueberries so he is very excited to eat fresh blueberries in oatmeal, pancakes and maybe even a cobbler. And of course plain as a refreshing snack in the afternoon.

**Quick note about the 2022 blueberry season, there was an uncharacteristically late frost this year that hurt many of the blueberry farms harvest this season. Some places have reduced their hours and days to accommodate this loss of crop. Try and support the farmers as best as you can by still going out and picking when they are open!

When is Blueberry Picking Season in Tampa?

Blueberry season in Tampa is from April to May, usually for a 6-8 week period. Make sure you follow along a few farms social media accounts so that you are alerted to the best time to go blueberry picking in Tampa each year.

Blueberry on the bush at varying degrees of ripeness. There is plenty of blueberry picking in Tampa for everyone to enjoy.

Tips for U-Pick Blueberries

  • Mother nature is not always predictable so exact dates will vary from year to year. I recommend always checking online before you go.
  • Along a similar vein, weather and being “picked out” can affect availability. Follow the farms you’re interested in on social media for last minute updates about rain and running out of ripe fruit.
  • Dress appropriately to be outdoors in the Florida heat. Lightweight layers that protect you from the sun, dirt and bugs are a good idea.
  • Bring water!
  • Don’t forget to bring sun protection. A hat and some sunscreen are a good place to start. The sun is strong in the middle of the day while the farms are open and sunburns are not enjoyable in my experience lol.
  • These are real working farms and the ground can be dusty or even muddy. Wear shoes that can get dirty or be easily cleaned off.
  • Most importantly: HAVE FUN! Enjoy the time you get to spend together outside in the sun!
