Grilled Pineapple! (Tucanos Copycat)

If you live in Utah and been to the local Brazilian grille Tucano’s then you have most likely had their delicious grilled pineapple! For a pineapple themed summer kickoff party I threw last year I figured what better food to serve to our guests than grilled pineapple! And I am so glad we did.

Make the same: Paper Pineapple Garland from the party

This recipe makes for the best warm, brown sugar glazed pineapple that tastes JUST LIKE Tucano’s. So now you can eat it whenever you’re craving it without having to pay Tucano’s prices.

And great news for some of you: it is gluten free! Plus the pineapple is light and healthy so you don’t feel bad eating it although the brown sugar might negate that some. Nevertheless, fire up your grill and LET”S GET COOKING!

Ingredients:

Grilled Pineapple Recipe
  • Fresh or Canned Pineapple
  • ½ C Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ C Butter, melted

Instructions:

Time needed: 1 hour and 15 minutes

  1. Make the Sauce

So first mix all the ingredients in a bowl except the pineapple.

  2. Prep the Pineapple

Then cut off the skin of the fresh pineapple. We looked up a youtube video of this part and I suggest you do the same if it is your first time.

Next slice the pineapple into about 10 equal slices and cut out the core.

  3. Marinate the Pineapple

Now place all the slices in a pan (9×13 works best, ours had jello in it). Completely coat the pineapple in the butter and sugar mixture by pouring the mixture over the pineapple slowly.

  4. Grill the Pineapple

Let the pineapple marinate in the sauce until you are ready to start grilling. When you do start grilling, grill at a medium temperature until the pineapple has golden brown grill lines and is warm all the way through. With the slices this should go fairly quick. If you’re using whole fresh pineapple that is not sliced you will have to grill in stages and you may want to apply more butter and sugar mix as you continue to cut off the outer layers.
