Do you have those times that you’re feeling down and could really use a pick me up? Or do you know anyone that is going through a hard time right now and could use a little surprise to say “I’m thinking about you and everything is going to be ok?” It’s not hard to think of someone right? Right! So get up and do something for those people! An easy project that a friend of mine showed me last year was the Little Box of Sunshine.
This is a really easy idea that can be as simple or as complex as you make it! And it can really be adapted for any situation like Mothers Day or Ministering** or birthdays as well as just because. I would even say you could personalize it to any situation by using a Bag of Sunshine (objects in a bag), or a Ray of Sunshine (a yellow gift instead of a set of gifts).

You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine
So the real idea behind this is just to pick up someones spirits when they are down and just let them know you’re thinking about them.
It might be a good idea to make several Little Bags of Sunshine now to just have handy at a moments notice so that you don’t have to worry about going out and buying supplies every time you see someone that could use one.
Picking Someone Out
- SOOO pick someone out in your mind right now that you think you could use a pick me up. Maybe your mom, or a sister, a good friend, or that acquaintance that hasn’t seemed themselves lately.
Good! Thats it. Real simple right? No need to complicate things.
Decorating Your Sunshine Box
This step is NOT necessary but can be fun for you and them if you have the time. This is where small yellow gift bags like these
- Take any sized box, although I suggest a small to medium sized box unless you’re sending something large.
- Now cut out yellow construction paper to fit the bottom and the flaps of the box.
- Next glue the paper in place using a glue stick or a hot glue gun.
- Finally, cut out the words “Little Box of Sunshine” and tape one word to each box flap.
Not to hard but definitely needs more work than those little yellow gift bags
