Twirl

If you are feeling self conscious in the flowers and aren’t sure how to pose, start with a simple twirl! It is fun which can help you relax in front of the camera. Plus the movement looks good on camera and if you capture several pictures in sequence then you’ll end up with lots of photos and hopefully at least one that you love. This photo was right at the end of a twirl and I love the way the dress ended up!

Smell the Flowers

The great thing about this classic pose is that it works well with a bouquet of flowers as well as with planted flowers in a field or on a bush. I find that you just have to watch your facial expression carefully so that you aren’t actually scrunch nosed and funny looking.

Cut or Pick Flowers

Another great way to look and feel natural in front of the camera is to interact with your surroundings. In this case try interacting with the flowers. If you are allowed to, then pick a flower or pretend to if it isn’t allowed.

Hands Out, Face Up

Next time you find yourself in a flower field you can’t go wrong with this classic pose. Embrace your surroundings with this whimsical pose of frolicking through the flowers.

Flip Your Hair

Flip your hair over your shoulder to create some movement near you head. It can be a big dramatic flip where the hair flys out or a smaller hair flip that is a little more subtle.

Flower Fields to Visit:

Follow-Me-To Pose

the follow me to pose with a couple holding hands

I don’t have any personal examples of this pose in a flower field but it would be a great place to try it. You simply hold another person’s hand and walk, leading them through the flowers. Here I am out of focus but you can leave yourself in focus and the picture will look great that way too!

Interact with Another Person

Whether it is a friend, a significant other or a child you can add some movement to your photos by capturing a real time interaction. From kissing to running through the flowers, the options are endless.

From the Back Walking Away or Looking Back

Slowly walk away from the camera while looking out in the distance or looking back over your shoulder towards the camera to capture a different side of yourself amongst the flowers.

Interact with a Hat

Using props such as a hat can make posing with flowers feel more natural

There are so many different ways to pose with flowers but many cute poses that feel the most natural involve interacting with your surroundings or a prop. A “prop” doesn’t have to be anything crazy, I like wearing hats and using them as I pose amongst the beautiful flowers.

Side Profile

Take a picture from the side as you look out over the flowers capturing tyour side profile instead of your entire face.

Play with Your Hair

An easy way to create a beautiful photo without having too think to hard, try playing with your hair in a natural way. You don’t have to bring anything with you and if you’re anything like myself, this action happens naturally all the time.

Use Your Dress

Another easy way to keep your hands busy during a photo shoot amongst a bunch of flowers is to play with your dress. It can add a feminine and fun touch.

Flower Fields in Florida

Cover One Eye with a Flower

An example of a photo covering one eye with a lemon.

Hold a flower up to cover half of your face or one eye as I am doing here with the lemon slice. This is a fun idea for a portrait or close up picture that still includes the flowers.

Hold Flowers Over Your Shoulder

figuring out how to pose with flowers may feel difficult but you simply need to try new things like showing the flowers over your shoulder.

For this great pose take a photo from behind with a small flower bouquet resting on your shoulder. It brings the flowers up close and personal within the photo frame. In the photo above I knew the cherry blossoms would be far away so I brought along flowers to bring the florals closer! The trees were beautiful either way but I love how these photos turned out.

Flower Crown

During your next flower field photo shoot try using a flower crown! You could make one ahead of time to wear at the fields or make one from the flowers you pick at the flower fields. Either way it will look beautiful and be such a fun activity, especially if you do it together with some friends.

Leap or Jump

A fun hop, leap or jump conveys feelings of joy and happiness, which of course I assume almost everyone feels about being in a flower field!

Feet Up

Unique poses for photos in a flower field such as this one with legs and a glass of flowers seen above a field of zinnias.

A fun photo idea for when you don’t want to show your face, or you simply want to try something different is this fun pose where you lay on the ground and put your legs up in the air. I do recommend bringing a blanket to lay on to avoid getting super dirty though! This is a great way to show off the beauty of the flowers too since more of the focus is on the flowers than on you.

How to Pose with Flowers

I can’t wait to see all the creative photos you create using some of these poses. Make each pose your own, have fun and act as naturally as possible. Figuring out how to pose with flowers is going to be easier than you think.
