I FINALLY decorated Robin and I’s “Master” bedroom!! I went with a modern black and white master bedroom look. It is definitely my favorite room in the house now and I cannot wait to eventually decorate the rest of our house. Decorating is so fun but I find that it always costs way more than I would ever have guessed. Things just cost more than I think they should and I hate compromising on the look I want.
So the trick is really finding the balance between look and style and TIME. Yes thats right I said time. Given enough time you WILL find what you are looking for within your price range. However, you don’t necessarily want it to take a whole year to put together a room.

Decorating Tips
Try giving yourself a month or two and set aside time to really search and compare items that will work for the look that you’re going for. I created a Pinterest board fully dedicated to inspiration for our black and white master bedroom. This keeps all my ideas in one place and made it really easy to refer back to as well as to show other people what look I was going for. I have a full post on my Tips to Redecorating that I recommend that you read first!
Furniture
Bed Frame: I already owned the bed frame which worked out nicely. Robin and I bought it on Facebook marketplace about a year and a half ago. I think I bought it for about $45. It’s from Ikea and they still sell it HERE. This Ikea bed frame is normally $250. I saved a ton using facebook marketplace and so can you!
Dresser and Night Stands: I bought the night stands for $25 each and the dresser for $50 off of, you guessed it, Facebook marketplace. I sanded them down and spent a few hours staining them black. They turned out great, especially the dresser. The stain I used was a black one from Lowes. HERE is an identical one from The Home Depot.
Bedding
Sheets: These are SO CHEAP! We’ve been sleeping on them for months now AND they’ve been washed a couple of times. My review: AWESOME! They haven’t pilled, they’re soft, and the color is holding up great. If I ever need sheets again I will definitely order these ones. You can buy them HERE on Amazon for $16.64 for a queen set.
Comforter: This white down comforter was $30!!!! Now just be warned before you all run out and buy it that it is only the comforter. There are no pillow shams, no sheets, no nothing else. Also fair warning it is warm, and soft, and the perfect simple white comforter for a good price. I guess you win some, you lose some. You may now rush to buy it HERE from Walmart.
Throw Pillows: I got the big fluffy white pillows from Costco. My husband and I were walking down the isle and happened to see them actually. The pillows were SO SOFT we couldn’t leave without them. They were about $17 each. You can buy yours HERE and they have several colors! Costco sold out of them but you can buy two pillow covers for only $13 on Amazon HERE.
Regular Pillows: We got our pillows from Bed Bath and Beyond when we first got married. I like really soft pillows and Robin likes more firm pillows. Sorry I don’t know the brand or anything! These pillows from Amazon Basics have AMAZING reviews and are worth trying!
Throw Blanket: This chunky knit blanket was a huge bust to tell truth. I really, really wanted one and spent a long time looking for a good deal. The one I got was from Amazon was $100 for a queen size throw. It sheds really badly and snags on everything. On top of all that it shows Copper’s white fur in stark contrast which sucks (Copper is our siberian husky pup). The expensive version from Sarah Lou Co that I was looking at might be better quality but I can’t say that for sure, try at your own risk.
Lamps
These lamps are what dreams are made of. They are tall and mirrored and gorgeous. They’re also a good example of sometimes what you think you want isn’t always what is best. I thought I wanted something with a glass or crystal base. Instead, I found these on Facebook market place (which is a gold mine if you use it right) for only $30 for the set. I found similar ones HERE from Kohls though they’re a bit expensive. This set from Amazon is much cheaper but still looks high end.
Bed Side Decorations
Flower Vase: This ceramic, simple white planter was perfect to hold flowers. It does the job, is extremely sturdy, and I have been very happy with it! I would definitely purchase it again. You can buy it you can HERE from Amazon, it costs $11.62.
Flowers: The flowers are from Hobby Lobby. I believe they came out to about $15. I went to the store so that I could hold the flowers up to each other and make sure I liked them as a bouquet. These white roses on Amazon look beautiful and this greenery bunch would look great with them!
Tissue Box: The tissue box was another great Amazon find. It is actually metal, but it is extremely sturdy and I love its simple lines. Seriously the price is great for what you get and I would definitely buy it again as well. You can buy it HERE from Amazon for $12.99.
Candle: The candle was a Christmas gift and I love the light pink color. It has a floral smell that I LOVE. You can get it off of Amazon, the medium size is $12.00.

Dresser Decorations and Wall Art
Next up in the black and white master bedroom was this cute little dresser space. I knew I wanted an uplifting quote somewhere in the room and it worked so nicely here!
Candle Sticks: I found all of the candle stick holders at thrift stores! They were between $2-$3 dollars each. I spray painted the black ones and then left the glass ones as is. The black ones started off as metal, green and brown. I used a multi surface spray paint I had from a previous project (spray painting roses for halloween). Altogether I think it cost me about $14 for the candle sticks. Black spray paint will be about $4.00.
Letter Board: I LOVE these things! Robin got this one for me for Christmas last year. When you’re redecorating a room its always a good idea to assess what you already own and use what you can. It’ll save money in the long run! Anyway, the Letter Boards can be such a great way to express your creativity and they’re very versatile. I got mine from a company called Letterfolk, I found out about them on Instagram and thought they were so cute. They are not the cheapest option but the quality is amazing. If you do want a cheaper option Amazon has some cute ones like this black and white one.
Etsy Print: I love this quote! Its kinda quirky but uplifting as well. The print came off of Etsy and since you’re buying an e-print the transaction is super fast! You can buy it HERE and feel free to check out her other printable wall sayings. The cost was $8.04.
Frames: The frames are affordable plastic poster frames from Walmart. There’s nothing crazy special about them but I will say they are holding up well and they look GREAT! So I would buy them again in a heart beat, especially with the unbeatable price tag. You can buy them HERE for under $10 a piece. Plus they are usually eligible for next day pick-up!
Printing Costs: Ok, this is where things got more pricey than I expected. After comparing prices between Staples, Costco, Fed-Ex (all were pretty similar) as well as quality (this is where Staples won), I went with Staples. I put in my order online and within an hour or so it was ready for pick-up!
I got home and found that the prints didn’t fit in the frames because they had been cut to the wrong size. When I took them back and they had the issue fixed free of charge within like 3 minutes. 1000% recommend. Printing cost about $25 I think.
Metal Art: I got this gorgeous piece of metal art work for free can you believe that?! I helped a neighbor of ours move and he was getting rid of some things. As a thanks for helping him he let me go through his get rid of pile (free things is basically my love language, I couldn’t say no). So that’s how I got this art piece and our microwave! I found a similar wall decor on Etsy for about $75.
Mirrors
The final touch in the black and white master bedroom was the mirrors. So I wish this was a facebook market place victory like the lamps but this one is a mixed story. I found one mirror for $5 on the marketplace, which was like a dream because all the mirrors I had found were expensive. Then to find a matching mirror I had to spend $60! But they look great and it was better than $120 total! You can buy the $60 one HERE on Amazon.
Black and White Master Bedroom Finishing Touches
Remember it’s all in the details but you also don’t want to over do it and feel cluttered. I feel the better you stick to your theme the better the end results but the most important thing is that it makes you happy. Make sure that the space is one you can relax in and enjoy and be proud of!
The master bedroom redecorating was super fun. We are moving again in a few months so I’m waiting to start any other major projects. Robin and I are starting up an Airbnb, right now I have to make sure it looks good enough to attract guests. Guess I’ll be following my own tips!
