Experience New Things

So often in a relationship it can be easy to get into a routine and do the same things day after day, week after week. Things can start to feel more like living with a roommate. Travel is the perfect opportunity to get out of your normal routine and mix things up

Make sure that while you are traveling you are open to new things that you can experience together. This can be as simple as trying local foods that you’ve never had before and trying them together. Or it can be bigger like trying rock climbing for the first time. No relationship is out of firsts when you are constantly seeking out new adventures to try together. And traveling as a couple can open those doors for you.

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

While you are out adventuring and trying new things make sure you get outside your comfort zone. This may be different for each person and it is important that you both be willing to get outside your comfort zone. Travel offers so many situations that will make you feel uncomfortable because you are surrounded by unknown customs and different social norms. Don’t let that stop you!

I am the cook in the house but when we went to Thailand I wanted to take a cooking class. Robin seemed a little hesitant and probably thought it was a silly idea more suited to older travelers. But he went along with it and we ended up having a blast!! Now whenever we travel to a new country we try to fit in a cooking class. Plus then we come home with new skills that we can use together!

So maybe it’s dancing together to street music or maybe its anything that makes you slightly uncomfortable. Try to let each other fully experience the culture and customs and learn from them. By doing it together and pushing the boundaries it can bring new depth to your relationship and expand your horizons.

Struggle Together while Traveling as a Couple

Traveling as a couple will place plenty of opportunities for you to struggle together in front of you. Nothing, no matter how hard you plan goes perfectly every time. There are going to be hurdles like lost luggage, missed reservations, and getting lost just to name a few.

Through traveling and going through the not so pleasant side of travel I have learned so much about Robin. He handles the difficult times so much better than me lol. He stays calm, he works through them calmly whereas I tend to get worked up. I definitely got myself a winner lol.

No matter how you handle it though the important part is to work through it together. You’ll learn more about each other and learn to lean on each others strengths.

Be Tired and Worn Out Together

Being tired brings out a whole new level of grumpy, at least for me. Learning how to be together and embrace the other person at their worst and help them through it brings you closer. It is also important to learn how to accept help when you’re tired and maybe need a little help is another important lesson to learn.

Sometimes in our day to day lives we become tired but not really worn out. Adventuring all day can bring out a whole new worn out but in the best way. In the that was awesome and wholesome and fulfilling but now I’m so tired and could sleep for days kind of ways. Relaxing after such amazing days and talking about the events of the day is a great way to grow closer.

Gain a Sense of Adventure and Newness

Bring the sense of adventure and newness back to a relationship by traveling! Travel is full of new experiences and will get you out of the routine of normal life. The giddiness that comes with a new relationship is the same way I feel when experiencing a new place that I love, and I enjoy experiencing those feelings all over again with the person that I love the most.
