This is THE BEST southern style gravy ever, the ultimate breakfast for dinner, and the greatest comfort food. It is stock-full of flavor and super filling, although I don’t think it’ll ever be touted as a healthy dish. 😉
This southern style gravy stems from my grandpa who is a pro at cooking it up and taught my mom. My mom made this recipe often for my family when I was growing up and it has become one of my favorite meals to make, and eat. You can make up this gravy in about 30-45 minutes and eat it over flaky buttermilk biscuits!
The gravy is super simple to make needing only 4 ingredients and serves 4-5 adults but you are going to want leftovers so I suggest investing in a gigantic pan and doubling the recipe.

Instructions:
In a large sauce pan brown the sausage until it is cooked through.
Then, in the same pan, add the 1/2 cup flour and mix until the flour evenly coats the sausage.
Next, add the milk. The amount of milk determines the consistency and quantity of gravy made. So if you want lots of thin gravy add all six cups. I usually add about 5 ½ and I feel it is pretty thick (definitely not soupy. Like at all).
Finally add pepper to taste. I like a lot of pepper but Robin doesn’t so this could take some trial and error.
Now let this all simmer, mixing occasionally, until it thickens to your liking, about 12-15 minutes. Enjoy warm over buttermilk biscuits!
