This rainbow banner was so much fun to make and actually ended up being a lot simpler that I thought it would be. It is pretty large too so for only a couple bucks you have the perfect decor for over a food table or as a photo backdrop. I made my rainbow backdrop for a St. Patricks Day celebration although it could work for a variety of situations, such as birthday parties!
Rainbows are such a beautiful symbol from a promise from god to the newer association with the LGBTQ community. Plus they’re gorgeous in real life too. So lets get to it!
So first things first, gather all your supplies together!

Instructions
- Cut the masking tape to your desired length. The length of your tape will be the length of your rainbow.
- Bunch the streamers along the tape. Do one color at a time until you’ve finished them all. Lay down a bit of streamer on the tape, fold it off the tape then press the next part down on the tape. Repeat down the whole length of tape until finished. I recommend not tearing the steamer off the roll until you’re done because it is hard to know exactly how much you’ll need.
- Tape the completed streamers to the wall one at a time slightly overlapping.
- Using the black construction paper cut out a pot for your pot of gold. I had to use two pieces in order to make a pot big enough. I used the stapler to staple the pieces together.
- Using the gold construction paper cut out a pile of gold. It isn’t hard but I recommend practicing to draw it out on something first. Tape this and the pot to the wall.
- Finally, take the tissue paper and wrinkle it. Then form it into a bubble like shape and tape it closed using masking tap. Next tape these onto the wall at the end of the rainbow.
And now enjoy your beautiful rainbow backdrop!
