So the pregnancy test came back positive. Congratulations!! Depending on how far along you are (I know you know) you probably aren’t telling very many people. It’s a lot to keep inside! But there is one person you can tell and that’s your husband. So here are 9 adorable pregnancy announcement ideas to help you break the news.
Find a way that fits you and your significant other the best, there is no right or wrong. To surprise my husband when we found out I immediately ordered a pair of baby shoes and a onesie that said “oh baby”. Then I set them next to me letter board that said “worlds greatest dad” and waited down stairs until he came down and read it.
The only thing that sucked was waiting two days for my items to arrive from Amazon. Make sure you keep that in mind for anything you plan.
This is such an exciting, amazing time and I can not wait to see how you make these your own!!!
Surprise Sign
Similar to how I surprised my husband there are many options. You can use a white boards, a chalk board, or a letter board of some kind. Then write out a message that gives the big secret away. A few good options:
- You’re going to be a daddy!
- Worlds Greatest Dad
- Hey there baby daddy
- There’s a bun in this oven
Have a Photoshoot
Hire a photographer and plan a cute reveal while pictures are being taken. You could use a sign like above or a pair of adorable baby shoes.
An added bonus is then you get to keep those pictures as memories forever and could even use them while announcing the pregnancy to the world.
Leave the Stick Out
This one is simple but ideal if you don’t want to have to wait for supplies to arrive. You can leave the pregnancy test out on the counter and wait for your husband to find it.
Or if you REALLY don’t want to wait. Leave it in a room like the bathroom and then ask you husband to grab something for you from the bathroom. He’ll notice the pregnancy test and be back with you in just a minute or two.
Scavenger Hunt
Put baby related clues on sticky notes throughout the house. End with the pregnancy test and a joke about being ready for baby life. Something like this:
- Welcome Home! Head to the bedroom where baby making activities happen.
- Next head to the backyard where one day we will teach our kids to play catch and garden.
- Now head to the place we will have to throw away hundreds of poopy diapers.
- Head to the fridge and grab the pickles. Hope you’re ready for the cravings.

On many apps and websites you will see people compare the size of your growing baby to different fruits. Do the math real fast and then hand your husband the fruit (or other food) that is the same size as your baby.
Most likely it will be something small like a poppyseed or blueberry but he will be very confused and have to ask what is this for? Then you can tell him the exciting news.
Fun T-Shirts
There are several fun, cute baby related shirts out there that would be perfect to surprise the soon to be daddy. You could wear this comfy “baby loading” shirt and see how long it takes him to notice.
Or you could get these matching mommy and daddy t-shirts and then give your spouse or boyfriend the shirt as a gift. Then you can wear the shirts together to announce your pregnancy to other people.
Involve a Pet or Sibling
If you have a dog or maybe this isn’t your first baby then a fun way to announce this pregnancy by involving them!
For a dog or cat you can find bandanas or pet shirts that something about being a sibling or baby security. My favorite is “My humans are getting me a human”. I love the humor and there are so many cute designs to choose from. There are also cute sign you can use if you would rather hang that around your pups neck than a bandana.
If this isn’t your first kid then get your older children shirts calling them big sister or big brother!
