If you’re looking for an easy delicious chocolate dessert then look no further. These oreo balls are easy to make and a definite crowd pleaser although you probably won’t want to share.
My husband and I discovered these during our first year of marriage. I don’t even want to know how many time we made oreo balls that year! They were our go to treat on date nights when we stayed in. I forgot about them for a while but when I was going through my recipe cards I knew I had to make them.
I hope you love them as much as we do. Let’s get started.

Oreo Ball Ingredients
- Chocolate Chips
- Family Size Package Oreos
- Cream Cheese
Other Delicious Desserts:
- Ooey Gooey Chocolate Cake (Better Than Anything Cake)
- Three Ingredient Fudge
- Tiger Cookies (No Bake Cookies)
Instructions
Time needed: 2 hours
- Prep the Filling
Crush up the whole package of oreos using some kind of masher or mallet. I use a masher in a bowl but if you use a mallet I would recommend crushing them up in a zip lock bag. Another option is a zip lock bag and a rolling pin. Just use what you have on hand. Then add in the cream cheese and pix it in thoroughly
- Roll into Balls
Prep a cookie sheet or plater covered by a sheet of wax paper. Then roll the filling into balls and place it on the paper. Place all the balls in the fridge for about 20 minutes to solidify.
- Melt the Chocolate
Now melt the chocolate, I melt it in the microwave. I put all the chocolate chips in a small bowl and microwave for one minute. then mix and microwave for 30 second increments until the chocolate is smooth. It only takes about a minute and a half to two minutes for two cups of chocolate chips.
- Cover in Chocolate
Now take the balls of filling out of the fridge and cover them in the melted chocolate using a spoon. Then refrigerate the oreo balls until you’re ready to eat them. I recommend giving them at least 1-2 hours in the fridge to let the chocolate harden completely.
Oreo Ball Dessert
The oreo balls are super rich so make sure you have water or milk to drink with them but they are so delicious it is worth it. How many you get out of the recipe depends on how big or small you make the balls. The size I made them in the pictures (fairly large) made about 21. However making them half as big would be a better bite size and make twice as many.
These oreo balls are one of my husband’s favorite desserts so these also inspired the birthday cake I made for Robin’s 26th birthday. We celebrated while in quarantine for COVID-19 so I thought a special cake would be fun! Luckily the cake was a huge success. Try the oreo ball cake for yourself!
