First Trimester Struggles and Must Haves

Well the secret is out! I am pregnant with Robin and I’s first child! It is such an exciting and overwhelming experience all at the same time. I have so many big plans for the nursery and I can’t wait to get started. First I have to kick this nausea that has carried through my whole first trimester.

Many of you that are regular readers know that we recently moved to Florida. I found out I was pregnant right before the four week mark just before I missed my first period. As weird as it sounds I just had a hunch so I took a pregnancy test and I could not have been more surprised at the positive result! That was just a couple of weeks before our big move.

Weeks 4-7

At first, during weeks four and five I felt pretty normal. There was some extra exhaustion to start off with but I felt good. Starting with week six though is when the nausea and food aversions started, and it was bad. I also started feeling hungry all the time! I spent most days feeling incredible nauseas and hungry. Trying to find foods that would sit well and that I keep down. Week seven is when the vomiting started. It was only occasionally but I definitely having a hard time finding foods that would sit well.

Weeks 8-11

The nausea has been the worst part of the first trimester and it kept going all through weeks 8-11. The vomiting also got worse through week 9 and I started having trouble keeping food down and even getting a little dehydrated. Luckily in week 10 my doctor prescribed a B6 and unisom combination that has helped tremendously. I was finally having good days with minimal or even no nausea for a couple days here and there. The food aversions though are still going strong. Carbs and fruit seem to sit the best over all. Not the healthiest but at least it is something.

Weeks 12-13

Week 12 was the best week so far. I finally got to see my new doctor which was a real struggle due to moving and insurance changes. Getting to hear the babies heartbeat was really exciting and everything is progressing really well. Now we are in week thirteen and my biggest hope is that the food aversions will let up soon as I enter the second trimester in the next week or two.

Book

Being a first time pregnant mom I know absolutely NOTHING about pregnancy. The best resource I have found that has helped me understand the changes that my body is going through as well as the different stages of baby is the book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting“. It goes through diet and hormones plus the changes in mom and baby week by week.

App

Another fun way I have been keeping track of the babies development is an app called “The Bump App”. The app is completely free which is the best. It compares the babies weekly growth to fruit which makes it so easy and fun to visualize. It also gives weekly updates on what is developing on the baby like their fingerprints!

Water

Staying hydrated while being nauseous hasn’t been easy but I found it a lot easier to drink cold ice water than room temperature water. I love these S’well water bottles for keeping water cold longer.

Happy First Trimester

Hopefully if you have any of the same struggles hearing that you aren’t alone can help you! I have loved talking to other moms about their pregnancy experiences and comparing to my own. It is so crazy how different every pregnancy can be. I would love to hear about your first trimester experience in the comments!!!

Congrats mama’s! We all got this! Make sure you do the fun stuff while you don’t feel good like making the baby registry. I went with an Amazon baby registry because it offers a large number of brands in one place as well as the option to add items from other sites.
