I AM SO EXCITED to introduce my newest project! It came to me out of the blue as I was driving Copper to the dog park. I LOVE thrift store shopping and always have. My mom, sister and I used to go all the time and spend hours looking through the clothing racks and trying on our finds. My sister has since decided she doesn’t like thrift store shopping (her version is Ross, which although a great store is not second hand). I kept my love of deals and thrifting though and I wanted to find a way to share it with you.
I also love Pinterest (who doesn’t right?), so I thought it would be fun to combine the two. Each month I will be picking out a few pins from my Women’s Style board on Pinterest and use thrift shopping to recreate those outfits. You’ll get to see the whole process here as well as exactly how much I spent verses what would be spent at traditional stores.
This post does contain some affiliate links. This means I make a small profit from your purchase but at no increased cost to you. Thank you!
The first week I tried a new thrift store that ended up having a great selection although it was a little more pricey than I feel like thrift stores should be. BUT I found some good things! Including the prettiest burgundy/violet top with peplum sleeves from Kohls WITH THE TAGS STILL ATTACHED!
I ended up finding three pieces (plus the shirt above) that worked perfectly. I am so excited to show you! so lets get started.
Week One, Jan. 10
This is an outfit I’ve had pinned for a while. I’m really excited to bring it to life in my own closet. I supplemented what I bought with items I already owned, you should always do the same. Are you ready?? Here is my first go at this!!
I think it turned out super cute! Now I thought it’d be fun to break down how much I spent vs how much I would’ve spent shopping full price at traditional stores to see how much I saved. Anything that is zero dollars is something I already owned. You should use items you own already too so it’ll all even out.
- White Beanie: $0.00
- Red Mock Turtleneck Sweater: $4.00
- Black and White Buffalo Check Button-Up: $4:00
- Jeans: $0.00
- Black Booties: $0.00
Total: $8.00
Now lets see how much it would’ve cost elsewhere. I included links in case you’re wanting to buy this look.
- White Beanie: $7.99
- Red Mock Turtleneck Sweater: $18.99
- Black and White Buffalo Check Button-Up: $17.40
- Jeans: $0.00 (I’m just going to assume you own a pair)
- Black Booties: $24.90
Total: $69.28
Yikes! IDK about you but thats darn near close to my entire new clothes budget for the entire season.
Week Two, Jan. 17
This outfit is SO CUTE!!! My biggest problem during this project is proving to be shoes. New shoes can be really expensive but there are a few item that I am always hesitant to buy from a thrift store. Those items are: socks, underwear, swimwear, shoes and hats. So that leaves me with only buying shoes that are lightly worn. Add into that shoe sizes are way more variable (and restrictive) than clothing sizes and I’m not finding a ton of new ones in the styles I need. I am up for the challenge but shoes might also just be the thing that vary the most from the photos.
I didn’t realize until it was too late how similar week one and week two’s outfits were, sorry about that! Anyway, lets get this started:
- Buffalo Check Button-Up Shirt: $4.00
- Red Cardigan: $4.99
- Black Jeans: $0.00
- Grey Circle Scarf: $3.99
- White Flats: $0.00
Total: 12.98
- Buffalo Check Button-Up Shirt: $17.40
- Red Cardigan: $24.99
- Black Jeans: $37.46
- Grey Circle Scarf: $18.99
- Taupe Boots: $25.00
Total: $123.84
How does anyone afford clothes? Is it just me that wonders this? Yup. Ok.

This outfit is so simple and elegant but I love it! I really like these blanket/shawl/cape/vest/coats. Haha nobody seems to have one set name for them.
